Bringing Christ to Kobani

A Testimony From Turkey

I want to give you guys a quick testimony from my trip to Turkey this past December.

We got to meet a Muslim man named, John. John is from Kobane, Syria. He owned a business and had a great life in Kobane. But because of the ISIS invasion of Kobane, John lost everything and he and his family had to flee to Suruc, Turkey.

In Suruc, we had the privilege to minister to him. The first time we met John, we got into a long dialogue about religion and current events around the world. John told us that his whole life, he was taught to hate Christians and that Christianity was bad. But he went on to say, that ever since ISIS has come about, he has seen what Islam really is, and the only people who have come to help his people have been Christians! Later, John, agreed to come to Church the next day.

The following day, we went to the place John was staying to take him to Church; he then invited us in for a quick meal. As we were fellowshipping with John, we asked if he had started reading the Bible we gave him (we didn’t have a translator with us at this moment in time, so we used Google translate). He told us he had, and he wrote us a message on Google translate that read, “I want to be in the religion of Christ”. How amazing is this?

We then went off to church. After the service, John and a few of us, were sitting on the floor, drinking tea. John was asking a lot of question about Christianity. After a while of discussion, he later told us, that when the war in Kobane is over, he is going to build a Church in Kobane! It is amazing how the love of God, expressed in service and word, penetrates hearts.

Since our trip, the war in Kobane has ceased, and ISIS has retreated. Kobane is now being restored and re-inhabited. Pray for God to continue to work in John’s heart as well as the thousands of others who are coming to know Jesus, slowly, but surely. Many Muslims risk everything when they come to Christ, and usually takes days to even years, for them to trust in Jesus.

I hope this story moves your heart for the lost people in the world. I know God’s heart is move for these people.

Your brother in Christ,

David
